Coralie Weill always remained alsatian in her heart:

MARMOUTIER: 1910-1936

Caroline Weill was born in Marmoutier on 1910.03.21.

Here are two versions of her birth certificate. The original birth certificate was created while Alsace was under German rule. Notice that her name is written as "Karolina" and that the parents are stated to be of the "Israelite" religion. A notice of her marriage has been added in the margin. At the bottom we see "Lazare Weill", but this is not his signature; the German officials always wrote the name (compare with the same name at the top). In March of 1946 she obtained a French version of her birth certificate and her name was now stated to be "Caroline".

Here are some photographs from the period 1910 to 1936.

On Monday February 3, 1936 Caroline Weill and Albert Herz were married in a civil ceremony at the Hôtel de Ville in Marmoutier. There surely was a religious service, but we do not have any information about this.
The marriage contract is from the same date. Notice that the contract is in German. It contains details concerning the dowry, etc.

Another document, this one of the utmost importance, that Coralie Weill signed on February 3, 1936, was her declaration of her intention to maintain her French citizenship and to reside in France. We have copies from 1939.11.23 and 1946.05.10, with the first being related to Albert Herz's enrollment in the army and the second with his becoming a French citizen. The document may also have been used when Albert Herz obtained a certificat d'identité in September of 1938.

1937-1958: PARIS--CHÉRONNAC--PARIS

On November 1, 1937 Roger's mother Ruth Holländer left Germany on her way to New York. She arrived in Paris and stayed with Eliane's parents. Ruth's grandmother and Albert Herz's mother were sisters and Ruth had known Albert while he was still in Germany. We have four pictures related to her stay in Paris. In the first three we see Coralie and Albert; Coralie and Ruth; Albert and Ruth.
The fourth picture was taken by Ruth from inside the train to the boat and we see Coralie waving goodbye. Ruth sent this picture to Paris and it was found in a shoebox full of photographs after Coralie Weill passed away in 1995.
Here are the four pictures.

Here are other photographs of Coralie Weill from the period 1937-1958.
More photographs of the family from this period can be found in the sections dealing with Eliane and Albert.

On 1939.01.17 Coralie Weill obtained an Assurances Sociales booklet. The reason for her obtaining one at this point in time is not evident.

NEW YORK: 1958-1995

Here are some photographs from the period 1958-1995.

At the end of 1964 Coralie Weill obtained a new French passport.
