Searching for combinatorial structures in finite geometry
At the International Workshop on Difference Sets in Hangzhou, China in 2018, Charlie Colbourn proposed a combinatorial structure involving affine planes that he and Brett Stevens had investigated. Based on a suggestion from Ken Smith, I wrote a program in a symbolic algebra package to search for the required combinatorial structure under the assumption that additional constraints are satisfied. I will outline what I learned, and invite discussion of how the required objects might be constructed. This will be an informal research discussion, not a polished presentation!
